Understanding paper sizes and measurements with Springfield Papers

Paper comes in a wide array of sizes but the two most used are standard and SRA. This short piece will help explain the language of paper and understand which one suits your specific needs.

Paper Size

Common UK Sizes

The International Standard (ISO 216) for scaling the paper sizes is fantastically simple. The length of the smaller size equals the width of the next largest sheet so that when folded in half, the paper has the same area as the smaller size down:

A0 – 1189 x 841mm

A1 – 594 x 841mm

A2 – 594 x 420mm

A3 – 297 x 420mm

A4 – 297 x 210mm

A5 – 148 x 210mm

A6 – 148 x 105mm

A7 – 74 x 105mm

SRA Series

Used by printers as the larger sized SRA series which is standardised by ISO 217. This system allows for extra space on the side of the paper which allows for bleed from to the print process.

SRA0     900mm × 1280mm

SRA1      640mm × 900mm

SRA2      450mm × 640mm

SRA3      320mm × 450mm

SRA4      225mm × 320mm
